We are delving into paid web advertising and would like help with a new look to our marketing that can be converted into web banners, posters, and other advertising material targeted toward tourist and expats.
Colors: Our color scheme is: Orange (#e88d27), Charcoal (#636363), Sand (#f3ede3), and White.
Important details are we need a spot in the ad with room to overlay different promotional codes for free trials, however we also want the ad to work without the overlay text (it shouldn't look empty without out the promo text or cluttered with it).
Logo: Our logo is a combination of a magnifying glass with our name WAYGO. We've included each element in their own PSD files as vector objects.
Values: We want to pull interest to the add through evoking the emotions of exploration, learning, and adventure. Asia, China and Japan, in particular is an important theme. The feeling you get when you can't communicate in a new country, or the satisfaction you get from being able to communicate while traveling are good themes.
Stylistically: The goal is really to capture attention and clearly present the message/product. We like simple, flat, geometric design using a handful of colors.
Examples: Most travel advertising shows a beautiful scenery with smiling people. This isn't what we're going for. We aren't just about going and seeing a place but interacting and experiencing it. It was easy to be grabbed by a great photo and a motivational quote, but we would like to communicate more about translation and/or an experience.
Translation fails are funny (http://cdn.humormadness.com/wp-cont…ails-1.jpg) but we've tried this before and didn't do so well because it wasn't communicating why someone should use the app. It was just a translation fail. If done well it could be interesting.
What we do best is instant offline translation. What we work best on is menus and signs, like at a restaurant, at a train station, or on the road.
You are free to be creative on how you catch peoples attention using those ideas. We are fans of clarity and simplicity and really want to help people translate the world around them. Please show us what you got.
Examples of past design work: Here are two youtube videos we did, one illustrates how the app works and another is an ad catering to the disaster side of not knowing a language. Note, that angle didn't work out for us that well, it just wasn't done well enough.
