LTrocket got their new book cover by running a design contest:
Book Cover Design Contest

Welcome to the Race
My book provides an analogy to life, comparing life to a race, while exploring the trials faced by a young person in high school. The perspective of the person provides a different outlook on life, which is inspired by Christianity. This is my first book, so the expectation is mainly for it to receive local attention.
The target audience is basically anybody above the age of twelve.
Book cover type
First of all, this is my first time using 99designs, so please inform me if there is any important information that is missing. Dimensions: —This is for a 5” x 8” paperback book —Spine width= 0.32” (128 pages) —Overall width= 10.57” —Overall height= 8.25” —*These measurements ARE including the 0.125” bleed measurement on all sides* **I'll need the final product formatted as a file that I can upload to Createspace** Fonts (based off "Pages" program on Mac): -Bodoni 72 Smallcaps: Title, author name, and back cover blurb -Snell Roundhand: Front cover tagline (unless it's so small that it's difficult to read, in which case do Bodoni 72 Smallcaps) -I like the idea of a gold, metallic font for all of the text on the front and back. If there's something that looks better, go for it. Mood/Color: The theme in this book carries a lot of contrast, whether it be light/dark, good/evil, love/hate, joy/suffering, etc. It is very solemn and gloomy at times while uplifting and encouraging at others. Because of this, I highly recommend the cover being mainly neutral colors, having that black and white look to it. The theme in the book is considered deep, so the cover needs to reflect that as much as possible without being too complex. If you look up "black and white book covers", there are many there that illustrate how I prefer this to appear. Example of something I like: Front: -Dark gray background with glow effect -White smoke lightly/moderately placed at bottom half of page -Checkered flag in motion of being waved, the flag is tattered and worn looking -Text placement as previously stated (title at top, tagline & name at bottom) Back: -Dark gray background with glow effect -White smoke lightly/moderately placed at bottom half of page -Text placed by best judgement with specs as mentioned above -Any additional theme illustrations that fit well //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// While I would recommend staying relatively close to what I have described, I am completely open to your ideas and will choose the cover that I believe to be the best fit. Honestly, if it looks great and fits the theme, I am going to like it. As stated before, this is my first book and I expect mainly local attention, so honestly I just want a cover that looks great and sets the mood. Please ask me any questions that you have and I will respond as soon as possible. **Also, if it is possible at all, I'd like to have full version and a version without any text, just the art. If that is at all possible, it will definitely increase your chances of winning. If that is not possible, disregard this.** Here is a link to Createspace cover requirements: https://www.createspace.com/Special/Enterprise/Publisher/submission_guidelines.jsp
What to avoid
Avoid anything too complex, too colorful, or anything that does not relate to the theme or title of the book. No borders/frames. Again, avoid putting anything of significant importance in the bottom right-hand corner of the back cover- the barcode will be printed over that area.
