I teach novel writing to teens. This is a teen novel writing workbook geared towards 10 -17 year olds. It's a step by step workbook on how to write a novel.
What's your vision?
Description Front Cover, Back Cover and spine for teen novel writing work book (Print and ebook) This is the first book in a series of writing books that I want to brand with the "P.L.A.Y. with Your Words" theme. Note: Though I have an idea of the theme I want, if you don't "feel" it and have another idea, then go with that. If you want to tackle the theme I'm leaning towards, keep in mind it needs to be clear this is a teaching/writing workbook. I don't want the teaching element to get lost in an eye catching cover. Cover Dimensions: 8.5" x 11" (21.59 x 27.94 cm) Spine width: approx.1126" Bleed: please leave a little extra image around the edges to ensure the cover will bleed properly. For more specifics on book cover https://www.createspace.com/Products/Book/CoverPDF.jsp?hc_location=ufi FRONT COVER Book title: Release the Novel in You Author: Gina Conroy Tag line: P.L.A.Y. with Your Words (My thought on this is to have the words written out with either a game control cord or jump rope or some other form of "play." Feel free to come up with your own idea, but remember this will be the branding mark with the other books in the series. Endorsement: coming soon! (just leave space for a couple of lines of text) BACK COVER (Text may change by final cover but just leave enough space for something like this.) Text: So you want to write a novel but don’t know where to start? Or maybe you started your novel strong, but suddenly you’re lost and have no motivation. No need to worry. Release the Novel in You is just what you need to get the ideas out of your head or help them start flowing again. What you’ll Learn: • 4 must-have story elements • Plotting using language and techniques you can actually understand • How to hook your reader by the end of the first page • Common writing mistakes and the mechanics of good writing • How to paint a picture with your words and have your story jump off the page The difference between starting a novel and writing “The End” is found in between the cover of Release the Novel in You. Backcover Reader endorsement: “If you are thinking about publishing a book, she’s amazing. If you just want to write a story, she’s amazing. I highly recommend her classes.” – Katherine, 11 yrs old “I liked how Gina Conroy put the way of planning stories into different types of games and used P.L.A.Y. to bring home the points about Playmate, Location, Action, and Game. It makes it fun to read and a more engaging way to think about plotting.” – Danielle, 14 yrs old Author bio (Also to be included on back cover): Leave space for author bio and photo to be added later (Important note: please leave a space in the lower right hand corner of the back cover for the bar code.) COVER IMAGE/ILLUSTRATION: The following is just my idea for a cover. You can run with this or use your imagination and be creative with the theme. Foreground: SUPER GIRL theme A teen girl stands on top of a jungle gym or on top of a slide, etc. on a playground. Her hair is blowing slightly, as she appears to be taking a leap or leaning... Or thinking about jumping/flying. She's wearing jeans and opening her hoodie to reveal a novel or inspiration for a book. Think teen super girl is releasing the novel within. I see super girl colors. Red, blue, yellow (muted or vibrant according to your design,) but I'm open to YOUR interpretation. Background: A school or playground maybe in a sketch, dull colors, less prominent than the foreground. BACK COVER IMAGE/ILLUSTRATION IDEA: The focus of the back cover needs to be the text, but feel free to extend the theme to the back in some way. Don't let the illustration wash out the text on the back cover.
This book is book 1 in a writing series. Keep in mind that the target audience must appeal to 10 - 17 year old boys and girls. Also, this is a workbook, so I don't think it should be heavy with rich details and illustrations, especially in the background. It should be fun, eye catching, and convey the fact that it is a book on how to write a novel and that THIS book on how to write will be fun. I have attached images for inspiration, but I'm NOT looking for copies. Photos are copyrighted and should only be used for inspiration.
