Note: please try out my sample photos in your designs. If you have a better photo, you can try it as well, but test mine too. :)
ELEMENTS TO BE INCLUDED ON COVER (in order of priority):
**MIRROR (framing book) - I prefer one a rustic one, made of wood or horns, probably rectangular to "frame" the cover better.
**GIRL in mirror, not all her face is visible
**Black WOLF with a reflection of a white wolf
** FOREST(also, there are really light Red Riding Hood references in the book, though the wolves are good -- you could play with that)
--> Frame the book within a mirror -- made of wood or dark bone and fashioned in the shape of a forest (see example -- can you use a high-quality image of this or something very similar to this?). It should be obvious that it's a mirror.
--> Within this mirror, show Lexi as she sees herself or is seen (winged/horned according to her mood/behavior): young woman in her 20s, Greek, slim, dark haired.
#1... I think the best bet might be to use the figure with the downcast head and dark angel wings (or something similar, if you find a better image -- I would prefer a more obviously female image, but I like that this one seems "realistic" and it might appeal to both genders. I'd really like to see something like this as a first option, but please feel free to try the other ideas too.
or #2... Another option here may be something along the lines of the black/white image of the angel with the wings/weight of the world on its shoulders... a bit more chaotic, but I suppose it's quite powerful as well.
or #3... If you prefer to use a silhouette for the front cover, I really like the one of the girl facing to the side. Can we use this one (I don't know about copyrights)? If not, can you find something very similar?
--> If you use this one, please do some double exposure. Within her silhouette, include the scene of the wolf drinking from the reflective lake, maybe within a dark snowy/smoky forest -- please make one of the wolves white (probably would look best for the reflection to be white?). There are two wolves in the book -- a black and white wolf respectively named Yin and Yang, that symbolize humanity's internal struggle. (If you go with this, you can still echo this image in the back cover.)
--> BACK cover: the wolf drinking from the reflective pond -- make one of the wolves white (probably would look best for the reflection to be white?). There are two wolves in the book -- a black and white wolf respectively named Yin and Yang, that symbolize humanity's internal struggle.
I'd love a continuation (or at least indicative pattern) of the front cover above/below/among the blurb. For example, the dark frame of the mirror again (a bit more faded) and inside it the text of the blurb, maybe the drinking wolf image too -- whatever looks best.
. . .
Another idea (I'm less enthusiastic about this, because I don't want the wolf to be such a main figure, but maybe you can bring it to life better than I'm envisioning it):
Play a bit of yin/yang with the wolves -- I think I'd prefer to see half the wolf head on the front cover (black half) and half of the wolf head on the back (the white half). Can we do some double exposure? E.g. some snowy forest/starry sky in the black side of the wolf's face, and within it a horned/winged girl standing in a dark snowy/smoky forest -- possibly wearing a red cloak, since the book does have a couple Red Riding Hood references. (Not sure how to incorporate the mirror, however. Maybe again as a frame?) This sort of cover would also have a fairy-tale vibe to it.
It would be cool to add a smattering swirl of fireflies somewhere in the forest if you incorporate a wood (unless you choose a snowy forest -- then maybe we can do snowflakes).
. . .
Please use the font "CELEXA" (you can download it for free; I did) for the title + my name. Please use the font "LIVINGSTONE" (also free) for the tagline. (Or something very close to those.)
Generally I like darker backgrounds/book covers rather than white backgrounds/book covers. Please have the words (title, author name) really stand out (e.g. white/gold text against a dark background), but there should be balance -- not a completely dark cover; it shouldn't be too
