Under the Blade
Matt Serafini is the author of Under the Blade, Island Red, Feral and Devil’s Row. He also co-authored a collection of short stories with Adam Cesare called All-Night Terror. He has written extensively on the subjects of film and literature for numerous websites including Dread Central and Shock Till You Drop. His nonfiction has also appeared in Fangoria and HorrorHound magazines. He spends a significant portion of his free time tracking down obscure slasher films, and hopes one day to parlay that knowledge into a definitive history book on the subject. Matt lives in Massachusetts with his wife and children.
Melanie Holden returns to the town of Forest Grove 25 years after surviving a madman's killing spree at the local summer camp. She begins to uncover the motives behind the long-dead killer's spree as a new rash of murders begins.
Readers of horror and suspense fiction.
Book cover type
I'm looking for something simple that will make for an effective thumbnail when people browse books on Amazon, but also something that's interesting and eye catching as the cover of a physical book too. The book is a modern day horror/suspense novel, but it's also a throwback to the slasher movies that were popular in the early 1980s--think Friday the 13th, The Burning, Sleepaway Camp, etc. Movie posters from that era, like the ones I've attached, might serve as a jumping off point for inspiration. It would be nice to capture SOME of that spirit (however minimally), but I also don't need the cover to be a 100% knockoff of the 1980s retro stuff. I'm very open to a modern interpretation, with only some elements of those classic posters. I've also attached a few modern book covers I like. Nothing I want to copy exactly, but I'd like to somehow merge the old "loud" styles with the newer "subtle" styles. That's why I defer to the experts. Also, the killer in the novel wears a welder's mask and a black jumpsuit. He uses a variety of machetes and axes and knives, if some of that could potentially be incorporated into the cover. I also attached the full cover of one of my previous books. Please keep my name in the same font if possible (I don't care about the title). I will provide the book logo and back cover copy, but the back cover layout should be similar to that.
