I chose Renard as it is an anagram of my name and due to it's french meaning (Fox). The idea behind “Fox” stems from an old academic paper related to forecasting and an ancient greek saying (“The fox knows many things; the hedgehog one great thing”). Hedgehogs have one grand theory which they are happy to extend into many domains. Foxes, on the other hand are skeptical about grand theories, diffident in their forecasts, and ready to adjust their ideas based on actual events.
As a boutique firm, the Fox symbolism and positive meanings across most cultures are very much applicable to our modus operandi - Wisdom, Cunning, Strategy, Cleverness, Adaptability, Quick-thinking. The pointed face and ears, also remind me of a shield (pertinent as risk management is critical) and an arrow (pertinent as we need to be laser focussed). In the logo, I wish to avoid the negative connotations of the fox, obviously.
With regards to the font, I do like the fonts/colors used for Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Soros Fund Management and Barron's Magazine.
