Twitter, Facebook & RSS – design some funky looking icons for our website.
What's your vision?
I’m looking to have social media icons integrated into my new site. You will need to look at the attachment Oilprice-home.jpg to see how the new design will look. I’m looking for the social media box to be outside the main part of the site and in the background. It needs to fit in with the rest of the design – be subtle and very well integrated, BUT it can’t be too well integrated that everybody misses it. It still needs to be easily visible and MOVE people to action (Follow us, like us, subscribe, etc...) Oh yes and please feel free to change the background if you can think of something more suitable for the site as a whole as i’m not in love with it and am open to ALL ideas. Here are some examples of some well integrated designs: http://www.ribena.co.uk/ http://www.wildbillssoda.com/index.aspx http://www.ryanscherf.net/ http://veerle.duoh.com/ - Nice twitter down at the bottom. – Something like this may work well. http://www.onextrapixel.com/ - Well integrated – like the RSS Options – Feed and e-mail. One important thing is that they shouldn’t be too well integrated – they must be easy to find and encourage people to use. The above examples are all very nice – but they lack one thing – a call to action. So i’m looking for something well integrated but that is also a bit pushy as well. It can be on the left or right hand side – whatever you think works best. The icons i would like are: Twitter (Follow us on Twitter) Facebook (Facebook like, follow, etc...) RSS feed and mail – this is nicely done on: http://www.onextrapixel.com/ The words that go with the icons will purely depend on the design – so one design may just have the icons, one may have Follow us on facebook and the Icon. There is no right or wrong at this stage. The icons will need to be above the fold. I want people to be able to see them without having to scroll down. If you look at the current version of http://oilprice.com you will see the twitter bird in the top right hand corner. This is rubbish and not professional or well integrated – but it hopefully gives you an idea. I’d like to mention again that if you can think of a more suitable background for the site as a whole and that makes the information stand out more and works well with the icons please give it a try. I look forward to seeing your entries.
