SeaToSoftware got their new button or icon by running a design contest:
The Loca Notes Android app needs a launcher icon

Location-aware smartphone apps that make life easier.
What's your vision?
I need a launcher icon for the new Android app called LocaNotes Photo. "Loca" in the name is short for "location". The app is aimed at amateur and pro photographers and it allows them to keep track of the locations they want to remember and come back to later. A user can snap a picture of any location with their phone, and it gets saved in phone's memory, along with the location, address, description, etc. Then, the user can view a list of saved locations, a map with all the locations marked, and see the details for any location. The icon should reflect 2 things: the location-aware nature of the app, and a reference to photography. For the former, I am thinking about adding a map marker to the icon, but maybe you'll have a better idea :) Also, the word "Loca", in addition to referring to "location", also means "crazy" in Spanish. So it's OK for the icon to have a sense of humor, or be a little funky. The above guidelines are provided for your reference, but please, don't feel constrained by them. I'm open to new ideas and your creativity, as long as the icon looks great and illustrates the purpose of the app. Since this is the launcher icon for Android, the image needs to be 512x512 pixels. See the design guidelines here: http://developer.android.com/guide/practices/ui_guidelines/icon_design_launcher.html If you have any questions, please let me know!
The target audience is the photographers (amateur and pro). They are probably mostly male, between 25 and 60 years old, and are creative people who are at least somewhat interested in technology. I've attached an outline of a design that you can explore if you want.
