esther.laufer got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Design innovative logo for interdisciplinary internet research center
Check out esther.laufer's Logo design contest…
The Center for Advanced Internet Studies (CAIS) hosts and funds conferences, workshops and summer schools and offers excellent scholars and distinguished individuals from non-academic backgrounds fellowships of up to 6 months to work on research projects in the field of digitalization. The center encourages cooperation among its fellows and aims to foster an inter- and transdisciplinary dialogue between scholars, entrepreneurs, politicians and the general public about the opportunities and challenges of digitalization. We are looking for a logo that includes the acronym CAIS as well as the full name. It should represent the interdisciplinary, interactive and inclusive nature of the center. It can be purely font-based if you can give the typography an iconic quality. If you have a good idea you can also design an icon as long as you keep it very clean and simple (like an app icon for instance) and avoid commonplace symbols such as a network spanning a globe. The logo should be classy but can be colorful and slightly whimsical to express the synergy of different perspectives at the center. The logo does not have to contain explicit references to digitalization (it certainly should not look like the logo of a technology company), but it has to look very contemporary to reflect the research focus of the center. It is possible that the CAIS will later be incorporated into a bigger institute with tenure positions for distinguished scholars in the field of internet research. Like the CAIS, the bigger institute will focus on inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation. Therefore, it is crucial that the logo for the CAIS can be linked to the logo for the bigger institute. The winning designer for the CAIS logo will be asked to design the logo for the bigger institute in a 1 to 1 project.
Other color requirements
We want to use the colours of the logo for our interior design, so they should not be too dark or extremely bright.
The logo should sit nicely with logos of similar institutions (see https://networkofcenters.net/centers) but not look too similar to any of them. Logos we like are: https://networkofcenters.net/center/cedi https://networkofcenters.net/center/cgcs https://networkofcenters.net/center/csnms https://networkofcenters.net/center/information-society-project-yale-law-school-yale-university-new-haven-ct
