TheraHive is a group therapy platform that focuses on the leading evidence-based treatment protocols which have been proven to work through research. We specialize in bringing together online groups of six to ten people for short term treatment programs that deliver results. The company was founded in 2020 by Dr. Alicia Smart, a leading practitioner of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) which has become one of the fastest-growing evidence-based treatment protocols for a broad range of diagnoses. Dr. Smart is a DBT Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician, and built the Bay Area’s largest therapy center focused on DBT. Research has shown that groups can enhance individual therapy and can be as effective, or more effective than individual therapy. But historically groups have been tied to local communities which are typically too small to support their ability to match optimally effective groups based on key attributes such as age, diagnosis, sexual orientation, or on a participant's available meeting times. TheraHive solves this problem by delivering the highest quality group experiences in a teletherapy setting. TheraHive combines the incredible innovation we’ve seen in online education with the transition to teletherapy. We’re in a distress decade, one in five Americans suffer from a mental health issue. If we’re going to stop this evolving crisis we need truly scalable solutions for mental health. Individual therapy simply doesn’t scale to address the issue in a cost-effective and timely manner but group therapy can scale and will be a critical part of the solution. We started TheraHive to advance this change in the world.

Our focus is on psychoeducation groups and the optimal size for such groups, according to research, is 6 to 10 people. We refer to these as “hives” because the cells of a beehive are hexagonal (six sides). Bee geeks also know that the ends of each cell actually have two more faces so the total faces add up to 10. Of course, bees work together to create something very sweet … honey. We bring together small groups to teach evidence-based skills that are proven to improve mental health and well-”being” :-) We serve an extremely broad client base from young adults to older adults of every race, orientation, and background. Following this, we need a logo that is universally appealing. Finally, group therapy is less well known than individual therapy, so the logo needs to convey both consumer appeal and a high degree of professionalism and credibility.
