How AvocadoPayments started their logo design journey
Who are you known as?
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
We allow businesses to accept Apple Pay or Android Pay from customers with no special hardware requirements and just a 5 minute setup. Target market is small to medium businesses who typically only accept cash or are seasonal. Pop-up shops, farmers market vendors, beach snack stands, Girl Scouts selling cookies, personal trainers, massage therapists, etc. Will also be pursuing enterprise clients like medical billing and traditional companies who send paper invoices.
What industry do you think your business is most related to?
Accounting & Financial

Like the simplicity
Like the clean lines and basic shapes.
Like the simplicity and combined concepts.
Like logos that show images in the negative space, although this one is a bit too overt. Subtly is key in these types of logos.
Simple, basic shapes.
Logo should be able to stand alone without "Avocado Payments" text included. Prefer more horizontal rather than vertical. Logo should pass the black and white test. I'm sure it would be easy to play around with the image of an actual avocado (which I will accept if clever) but that is not a requirement. Looking for modern, clean and thoughtful.
Symbols should be currency agnostic as this product is not intended for a single country or currency.
I cannot use "Pay" without the risk of Apple's trademark wrath, so that is out.
Avocado Payments is a contactless payment system that uses Apple Pay and Android Pay. Although we do have a credit card feature as a fallback, the focus of the product is to reduce the use of credit cards. So, using credit cards in the mark would not highlight the product's main feature.
The product makes heavy use of QR codes. I do not condone the gratuitous use of QR code imagery in marks, but if you can work it in by a clever or subtle way, I would definitely consider it.
