Bespoke modernist wordmark for engineering firm

SDR (abbreviation of Structural Design Resource) designs steel connections, framing, stairs, rails, etc. The SDR has been constructed literally from scratch. Instead of modifying an existing font, this way I was able to arrive at a consistent and distinct look. The precise curves and sharp angles are reminiscent of bent/formed steel constructions and are obviously related to engineering in style - this alone carries the story and message behind the wordmark.

The Logo depicts The Initial letter within the consistent pattern and branding of their other company. The dots imply the connectivity of the parties and enhances the negative space of the hollow parts of the letter.

Base from the brief I have first sketch the character, backgrounds and the over-all layout of texts in Photoshop. After the sketch I decided to traced and colored each elements using Pentool -Shape in Photoshop. However since the output exporting a PSD file in AI is not desirable. I just simply merge all shapes paste it on Illustrator then manually color each shape.
